you are an eagle

you are an eagle,

dressed like a dove.

I’m in my earth mound

coiling myself tighter

turning inward

you are flying away from me.

but something happens between us

it sprouts like two-colored grass

its tips are yellow,

flickers of your moving spirit

its shaft is red,

blood of my many hearts.

I can’t keep this grass from growing

over my head where you

will choose to land

when you fly back again
